Ensuring Highest Quality Quinoa Production
Industry collaborators on the Pure Ontario Quinoa project have conducted a regulatory and quality assurance assessment to maximize traceability across the entire value chain for Ontario-grown Quinta Quinoa. This assessment also acts as an opportunity for value chain development of other new crops in Ontario, helping to ensure success in the diversification of Ontario agriculture.
The plans for the quinoa processing facility include a low carbon footprint by meeting or exceeding Global Food Safety Initiative and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point standards. It is also a priority of Katan Kitchens to ensure product integrity and maintenance of high nutritional value throughout the entire production process. Federal, provincial and municipal regulations are currently being assessed to ensure this new facility will meet all necessary regulatory standards. A number of companies within the industry are eager to assist in the development of the facility, and will be involved in sourcing proper equipment, building supplies and zoning requirements accordingly to exceed these regulatory standards in the construction of a high-quality processing facility for Ontario-grown Quinta Quinoa.
This project is funded in part through Growing Forward 2 (GF2), a federal-provincial-territorial initiative. The Agricultural Adaptation Council assists in the delivery of GF2 in Ontario.
